Garden State Energy Path
In April 2024, Con Edison Transmission and National Grid Ventures submitted a proposal to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to build transmission infrastructure that will facilitate connecting offshore wind into the state.
The project, titled Garden State Energy Path, consists of pre-build infrastructure that will house transmission cables that will bring electricity from four offshore wind projects to the state’s existing electric grid. This will help New Jersey reach its goal of 11 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2040.
Highlights include:
- Garden State Energy Path provides a detailed design to achieve New Jersey’s offshore wind vision. Emphasizing a community-first approach, this project reduces disruption to communities and the environment. Building four duct banks during the same construction window allows for community impact to be planned and managed during a single construction period. Additionally, Garden State Energy Path offers alternative routes that recognize broader stakeholder interests.

If awarded, the Garden State Energy Path would be in operation by early 2029, ready for use by selected New Jersey offshore wind farms.
